Forbidden items

According to the regulations, it is forbidden to carry the following items into the security restricted area and in hand baggage on board an aircraft:

Guns, firearms, and other weapons that fire bullets

Weapons capable, or seemingly capable, of causing serious injury by firing a bullet, including:

  • firearms of all kinds, such as pistols, revolvers, guns, or rifles
  • toy weapons, reproductions, or imitations of firearms that could be mistaken for real weapons
  • components of firearms, excluding telescopes with an aiming finder
  • air or carbon dioxide weapons, such as pistols, pellet guns, rifles, or ball guns
  • rocket launcher guns or starter guns
  • bows, crossbows, or arrows
  • harpoon launchers or underwater rifles
  • slingshots or catapults

Stun devices

Devices designed specifically to stun or immobilise:

  • neutralising devices, such as stun guns, crippling pistols (tasers) or electric shock batons
  • devices to stun or kill animals
  • chemicals, gases, or sprays capable of producing disabling or immobilising effects, like irritating sprays, tear gas or animal repellents

Items with a sharpened tip or end

Items with a sharpened tip or end that can be used to cause serious injury, including:

  • cutting items, such as axes, hatchets, or cleavers
  • ice axes or ice picks
  • razor blades
  • cutters
  • knives with blades over 6cm long
  • scissors with blades over 6cm long measured from the fulcrum
  • martial arts equipment with a sharpened tip or end
  • swords or sabres

Work tools

Tools that can be used to cause serious injury or threaten aircraft safety, including:

  • crowbars
  • drills and their tips, including portable wireless electric drills
  • tools equipped with blades or tips longer than 6cm that can be used as weapons, such as screwdrivers or chisels
  • saws, including portable wireless, electric saws
  • soldering irons
  • dart guns or nail guns

Blunt objects

Objects that can be used to cause serious injury when used to strike, including:

  • baseball or softball clubs
  • clubs and sticks, such as batons or truncheons
  • martial arts equipment

Explosive or incendiary substances and devices

Explosive or incendiary devices and substances capable, or seemingly capable, of being used to cause serious injury or threaten aircraft safety, including:

  • ammunition
  • detonators and triggers
  • detonators and fuses
  • reproductions or imitations of explosive devices
  • mines, grenades, or other explosive military materials
  • fireworks or other pyrotechnical items
  • smoke cartridges or sticks
  • dynamite, gunpowder, or plastic explosives.

In addition, passengers are not allowed to carry the following items in their checked baggage:

  • explosive or incendiary devices
  • ammunition
  • detonators and triggers
  • detonators and fuses
  • mines, grenades, or other explosive military materials
  • fireworks or other pyrotechnical items
  • smoke cartridges or sticks
  • dynamite, gunpowder, or plastic explosives.
