Visit the Aeolian Islands and discover the most beautiful archipelago in Italy.
If you want to plan a holiday full of relaxation and fun, but you also want to indulge in some nature trips, the Aeolian Islands are the ideal place for you. For over 200 years, the seven sisters of the archipelago (Lipari, Panarea, Vulcano, Stromboli, Salina, Alicudi, and Filicudi) have been an extraordinary field of research for geologists from all over the world. Not forgetting that the ash, lava and all the material that has been erupted for thousands of years, has contributed significantly to the preservation of many ancient artefacts, transforming the Aeolian Islands into a large outdoor archaeological park.
Here are the must-see attractions:
Don’t miss
The Volcano of Stromboli
A place where nature expresses all its strength and gives the best of itself. This island, where there is no street lighting, will also give you the opportunity to admire a starry sky at night that is hard to forget.
Valle Muria, Lipari
On this beach the volcanic origin of the island of Lipari is revealed, because the sand, mixed with pebbles, is black and red. The beauty of this place is worth the rather strenuous walk to reach it.
Spiaggia di Calajunco, Panarea
It’s a beautiful bay, nestling among the rocks, a real natural swimming-pool. The rocky bay is shaped like an amphitheatre, which along with the seabed and sun’s rays, gives the sea wonderful colours.
Fossa delle Felci, Salina
You’ll be rewarded for toiling up the slope with a sensational panorama: a breath-taking view of the islands, and if the sky is clear, you can see all the way to Mount Etna and the coasts of Sicily.
